Building resilience and disaster preparedness of communities

Duration: April 2018 - December 2019

Cambodia belongs to countries affected by natural disasters such as floods, droughts and storms due to climate changes. These irregular fluctuations affect mostly the agriculture, which is the most important part of Cambodian economy. These impact causes a food insecurity of vulnerable and poor people, damage to infrastructure, losses of lives and schools get less accessible for children.

Project Goal:

Raise awareness about safety, water and protection management in schools and communities. To apply a model of “safe school”. To strengthen the existing mechanisms of disaster management which play an important role in preventing damage and loss of life due to disasters.

Implementation and results:

  • 150 families accessed for water consumption from 4 set of solar pumps, 8 water tanks, and 4 bore-holds installed/constructed
  • 500 students and 35 teachers from 2 schools understand organic vegetable growing technique, access drinking water and latrines in order to prevent infection diseases and use waste bins and disposal kilns for burning the waste in order to protect environment
  • School directors, school teacher committee, teachers and communities understand the DRR/CCA concept and safe school guideline and practice in school
